The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Macquarie University are pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Walters as Managing Director of radio station 2SER (Sydney Educational Broadcasting Ltd).
2SER, a community radio station, is jointly owned by Macquarie University and UTS.
Walters has been working in broadcasting for 20 years and joins 2SER from a leadership role at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) where he managed its national programming service, the Community Radio Network (CRN). This role included establishing multimedia content projects and leading a digital transition process.
He is passionate about community broadcasting and has already worked closely with 2SER for several years on its national program distribution activities, including The Wire, Federal Budget broadcasts, the Think suite of programs and podcasts, as well as growing the sector's capacity for news production.
"As a longstanding listener and former volunteer, I've always admired 2SER's ability to entertain, inform and push new boundaries,” Walters said.
“I'm delighted to be joining the station in its 40th year and look forward to celebrating this achievement with the rest of the 2SER community in 2019 - as well as playing my part in ensuring it maintains its essential role in Sydney's media landscape well into the future.”
Walters will commence in the role on January 14 and succeeds Steve Ahern who has been Acting Managing Director for the past six months.
