Professor Alan Davison has been appointed as the next Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Professor Davison has been Deputy Dean since 2017, and more recently acting Dean. He was previously Deputy Head and then Head of School, School of Arts, at the University of New England (UNE). He has extensive teaching and research experience from stints as a music academic at UNE, the University of Otago and the University of Melbourne.
“Professor Davison is one of the leading international scholars in the field of cultural history of the long 19th century [a term coined for the period between 1789 and 1914],” UTS Provost Professor Andrew Parfitt said. “He has published extensively in this area and has been the recipient of invitations to present at prestigious institutions including Yale University, Kings College London and the Royal College of Music (London).”
“His early career included work in the sciences, putting him in a unique position to conceptualise and realise the intersection between HASS and STEM disciplines that features in our UTS 2027 strategy, and which forms an important opportunity for the future of the Faculty.
“His vision for arts and social sciences at UTS will be pivotal to our success as a university of technology embracing a wide range of disciplines and professions to create genuine global impact.”
