The show attracts thousands of visitors annually and provides a rare opportunity to see the work of tomorrow's leading designers, illustrators, filmmakers, artists and animators.

The only show of its kind at an Australian university, the 10-day exhibition profiles the work of students graduating from Fashion and Textiles, Industrial Design, Visual Communication and Interior Design courses.

Lawrence Wallen, Head of the School of Design in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, said Design '10 demonstrates the remarkable talent and creativity of students across a wide range of disciplines.

"Representing the culmination of four years study, Design '10 is an important indicator for future directions and developments within the design industry," Professor Wallen said.

"Our graduates are highly adapted to lead in the critical challenges of the future that include sustainability, climate change, technology and the cultural and social changes occurring both in Australia and internationally."

Many exhibiting students are already carving out promising careers for themselves.

Fashion and Textiles student Jacquelyn Wellington recently competed as one of ten finalists in the Australian Textiles Institute Student Design Awards in Melbourne.

Her collection, which she describes as "inspired by the idea of a futuristic Alaskan wilderness", picked up three industry prizes and invaluable experience.

"I presented my look, concept and technical work to a panel of industry professionals including designers, journalists, photographers and manufacturers. I received great feedback on everything: styling, photography, fabrication, even my future career path, which was really helpful," she said.

The popular opening event fashion shows will be held on Wednesday 8 December. Two shows at 7pm and 8.45pm are open to the public, but are ticketed events. Visit the UTS Design '10 website for links to Moshtix to book for either show.

Design '10 is being held in the UTS Tower Building on Broadway and runs until Sunday 19 December.
