Active education

Summer holidays are fast approaching and it's time to find a way to wear the kids out – and preferably teach them something at the same time. Business graduate Amy Wilkins is going from strength to strength with a program which does just that, entertaining primary school-aged children with pop music while teaching them health and fitness principles. "Instead of exercise being a chore," says Wilkins, "it becomes a lot of fun and something they can't wait to do again." Wilkins designed, developed and implemented the ‘Active Kidz' program during her BA in Human Movement Studies. With colleague Scott Ehler she has released CDs, DVDs and videos with ABC Kids, and the pair have taken their Activate show from TV to live audiences around Australasia. The shows have been accredited by the NSW Department of Education and Training, and their latest DVD Get Activated! Let's Party! was released last month.
